About the Houses

Eloise and Clyde Snyder bought the River House roughly twenty years ago to be closer to their grandchildren as they grew up. They spent weekends and summers in the South Toe Valley taking them tubing, hiking, kayaking, playing baseball and doing gardening projects in the yard.

Later the house next door, the Rapids, became available for sale and they decided to purchase it to have as a rental and investment property. The Rapids also had an old shed on the property, which Eloise always wanted to turn into a bunk house for visiting friends.

Eloise finally decided to turn the shed, now the Barn, into the bunkhouse she had imagined. She hired a local craftsman to help her remodel it and traveled back to her family farm in northern Florida to reclaim materials to use in the Barn. She found treasures like her father's wagon seat, which she turned into the mantle of the fireplace, and old pine shingles and beams, which were added to the interior of the Barn. All of the houses have collections of antiques and family pieces that Eloise has collected throughout the years. She also spent hundreds of hours in the gardens of each of the properties, always fine tuning them to be more beautiful each year.

Eloise (or Mamama as her family calls her) has hosted hundreds of visitors in her rental homes, and gets so much happiness from having people come to enjoy the properties. She has rented to families, wedding parties, church groups, honeymooners, fishermen, and family reunions and has loved sharing these memories with so many of her guests. The houses have been a true labor of love for Eloise and the rest of the family, and we truly hope that you will be able to make as many wonderful memories here as we have.
